After graduating from Yale Law School, Managing Partner Lara Kayayan launched her career at the globally renown law firm Latham & Watkins LLP. Lara was a member of the firm's Litigation and Corporate Departments in Washington, D.C. and Los Angeles; she worked on multi-billion dollar complex tort actions as well as high-value mergers, acquisitions, and private equity fund formation transactions -- representing clients such as Riverstone and the Carlyle Group. Lara also structured and negotiated intellectual property (IP) transfers and licenses for Fortune 500 clients in connection with merger and acquisition transactions.
Lara went on to become the youngest General Counsel and Executive Vice-President in the history of Home Savings of America, a federal savings and loan that originated billions of dollars in mortgages annually. Lara managed HSOA's entire legal department and supervised dozens of outside law firms in a variety of litigation matters nationwide, including employment and TILA class actions, catastrophic personal injury cases, insurance coverage disputes, and IP matters. Lara excelled at mortgage repurchase litigation, pioneering a unique strategy: massive resistance and prevailing at trial. Lara then served as the interim General Counsel for DTZ, a UGL Company, where she helmed the worldwide legal department of a multi-billion dollar publicly-traded commercial real estate services firm.
Lara returned to private practice in 2012. Her experience and tenacity have served her clients well in a range of high-profile cases. In 2011, the Armenian Bar Association designated Lara one of the “Top 20 U.S. Attorneys Under the Age of 40.” Long an activist for the less fortunate, Lara spent countless hours representing indigent clients in New Haven as a Student Director/Litigator for the Jerome N. Frank Legal Services Organization. She was an editor of the Yale Law and Policy Review and a radio host on the Community Legal Education Radio Show, 1340 QYBC-AM ("Law Talk"). She currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Yale Club of Los Angeles, the Executive Committee of the Yale Law School Association, and the Los Angeles County Bar Association's Judicial Appointment Committee. Lara is fluent in Armenian and Arabic.
